Alternative Blog tools?

Hi all,

Does anyone know of a format for writing blogs other than HTML/WordPress? I would write more blogs if I had more ability to format things like numbered text, etc. 

I currently use a hosted WordPress site but don't do any blog posting. Instead I write articles in Word and post them to my site. Are there alternatives out there? I'd rather spend my time writing than formatting or getting frustrated.
