The Handbook of Technical Writing, by Brusaw, Alred, and Oliu (NY: St. Martin's
Press Inc, c1982) contains some minimal information about the usage of nonsexist
pronouns.

"The Handbook of Nonsexist Writing" (or something like that...
I have the book at home) has some useful information. If you are interested,
I will send you the author and publisher info later.

There are probably a zillion other writing and linguistic books that discuss
nonsexist writing. I read a good book by Robin Lakoff several years ago that
covered this topic, but unfortunately I do not remember the name of the book.
I'll let the linguistic buffs in our group provide you with the vital
statistics...

Personally, I usually try to write using plural pronouns (if/when pronouns are
necessary) and avoid the use of "his or her" altogether.
