Many of us likely use an alias to post to each list rather than type in the
whole address. I also have an alias for listserv. In some cases, I have an
alias for the list and another for the newsgroup itself
However, being human, my concentration varies and sometimes hit return before
I realize that I have sent a message to the wrong address. On the system I am
using, I read/write mail off line to save connection costs so I do have a
chance to recover some of those errors before I actually send them, however,
not everybody is using such a system. Once they hit return, it's too late.
