Philip,

All my projects involve collaborating with any number of
writers, product designers, etc. The most important thing for me
is to give credit to those who provide the good ideas that make
the documentation better than I could on my own.

I don't have to do this. Often, it's unlikely the idea's
originator will find out I took credit. But I have found that
there are too many things that happen that foster the 'them vs.
us' attitude between documentation and design. Telling other
writers and my manager about the contributions of my Subject
Matter Expert or a Graphic Artist or anyone gives others a
positive opinion of that person. Other writers look forward to
working with that person, even seek them out for help. Managers
think well of that person and mention them among themselves.
That person gets credit and credit always carries benefits such
as job security, pay raises, and promotions.

It isn`t ethics, it's common courtesy. It makes me look
good too! Try it!
