Are Word for Windows documents compatible
with Word for the Mac? In other words,
if I create a Word for Windows document
on my PC, transfer the disk to a Mac
disk, and open it in Word for the Mac,
will it have all the formatting and
text intact?

Both WinWord and MacWord have translation utilities and understand each other.
You can either do a SaveAs to the destination format from the source or transfer
the source as is and let the destination format import the original source. The
two platforms respect each other's formats and usually even transfer stylesheets
intact.
