MORE INFORMATION ABOUT PRESENTATIONS AND SPEAKERS

Giving Effective Presentations, Dr. Robert Fish.

It is critical that technical professionals communicate clearly
and with impact. This is sometimes difficult, especially when
you are trying to communicate a complex concept to a non-technical
audience. You're walking a tightrope between going over their
heads and boring them, or speaking too simply and insulting them.
This presentation explores the use of metaphors and stories to
overcome some of these problems.

Dr. Robert Fish is a principle with Morgan Seminar Group. He
specializes in presentation skills coaching and seminars at all
levels, from executives to the shop floor. Clients include PacBell,
HP, Lockheed, and PG&E. Dr. Fish can be reached at 408-998-7978.

Winning New Clients, Robert Middleton.

Marketing and selling are the two most misunderstood and frequently
most feared activities of professional and small businesses. The
challenge is to sell with persistence and assertiveness, while
maintaining integrity and professionalism. This presentation
explores HOW.

Robert Middleton is the president of Action Plan Marketing, and has
been self-employed over his 20 year working life. He has developed
effective marketing and sales approaches for hundreds of businesses
throughout the Bay Area. This presentation was well-received in
the San Francisco chapter.

Communicating with Foreign-Born Engineers, Lu Ellen Schafer.

Diversity can enhance our experience, but it can also provide
obstacles to successful communication. This presentation explains
how to deal with foreign-born engineers, how to break language and
cultural barriers, and how to communicate or write more effectively
to foreign-born people.

Lu Ellen Schafer, a Santa Cruz based trainer and speaker, helps
high-tech companies markedly improve their cross-cultural
communication. Her clients include Tandem, Silicon Graphics,
Solectron, Quantum, LSI Logic, and Sierra Semiconductor. Ms. Schafer
is on the faculty at University of California Extension, and can be
reached at 408-423-1339.

Designing Information for Multiple Mediums, Wayne Wiesler.

Information design used to involve what black print looked like on
paper. Today's marketplace now requires information to be built
into a single source file for use in technical manuals, online
documentation, online help, training materials, multimedia
presentations, quick-reference guides, marketing collaterals, and
potentially other media. This presentation explores the challenges
of accomplishing this new information design.

Wayne Wiesler is an information designer at Ross Systems where
they are exploring these issues of information design. He has
over 11 years of management in information design, and 17 years
in publishing. He also presented at STC's well-attended graphics
seminar last year.
