Sarah,
You can contact the Society for Technical Communication at 703-522-4114
(901 N. Stuart St., Suite 904, Arlington, VA 22203-1854) for an application
and for the contact of the Seattle STC chapter. Annual dues for new
members are $95 (includes a $10 enrollment fee). Dues include a
subscription to the quarterly journal, "Technical Communication, and the
monthly newsletter, "Intercom."
In my opinion, membership provides opportunities for professional contacts
at chapter meetings, regional conferences, and the annual conference;
technical communication theories via the quarterly journal; andpractial
tips and society news via the monthly newsletter, all of which can benefit
your employer as well as well as yourself.
