My cohort and I have gone over this and have concluded that this is largely
personal preference. I like white space where ever I can put it. My
counterpart, on the other hand, maintains that it absolutely unnecessary to
double-space. I think one space is too close and looks crowded. She thinks
it looks fine.

In a hundred years it won't matter. :-)
