Point taken (it's a direct relative of the referencing problem
in philosophy, which distinguishes a word's mention (reference)
from its referent), but the longest fun string of prepositions
I've seen is a complaint from a small child at bedtime:
"Daddy, what did you bring that book I don't like
to be read to out of down for?
-- --- -- ---- ---
> Quiz. Can you think of a sentence that ends in two prepositions? Three?
> How many prepositions *could* you have at the end of a sentence?
> ** An infinite number.
> Who was that lady I saw you with?
> Who was that gentleman I saw the lady I saw you with with?
> Who was that lady I saw the gentleman I saw the lady I saw you with with
> with?
> ... ad infinitum.
