Is anyone else out there as ticked off as I am about the ad that Radio
Shack has been running? It starts out with a user puzzling over baffle-gab
installation instructions for a VCR, then touts the highly trained sales
force at Radio Shack who can explain all the mysterious (and, by
implication, poorly documented) products they sell.
Now wait a minute! Doesn't Radio Shack manufacture most of the products
they sell? Even if they don't, couldn't they reduce their support--and
sales and product--costs by insisting that their suppliers produce usable
documentation for their products? (One major home repair/remodeling retail
chain has done this.) Even better, why not design products that don't
require users to read a 30-page manual before they can tape their favorite
soap or nuke a frozen entree?
Next time you visit your local Radio Shack, give the store manager a
message!
