TECHWR-L folk,

For anyone interested in the certification for technical
communicators issue--A good article on the issues involved
in certifying graphic designers appeared in the July
_Communication Arts_ last year.

Shapiro, Ellen. RCertification for Graphic
Designers? A Hypothetical Proposal.S
Design Issues column. _Communication Arts 35.3_
(1993): 185-192.

The author speculates on how a certification program would
affect the work of graphic designers, and a few of the questions
raised bear a striking similarity to issues facing TCs.

Also, the journal regularly reviews communication and
publication technologies. Like TCs, graphic designers
are also trying to figure out the ways that desktop publishing
affects the work of communication professionals. There are also
regular columns on freelancing and legal affairs.

Until later,

Ron
