There are several options available, but your space limitation is the
determining factor. It seems as though the size of the book requires that
the source file be in some compacted form. Then the 'viewer/search engine'
would perform the decryption. I suggest Folio Views, from Folio Corp in
Provo Utah. (Sorry I don't have any more detailed address). They've
practically written the book (pun intended) on this by publishing the Bible
and many other huge libraries in just this form. They have both Windows and
DOS based versions. I've seen their KJV Bible on two diskettes, that
installs on the users hard disk. Quite compact. I have several of their
Infobases (TM) on a CD-ROM, over 128 books, including the Bible and several
large histories)

Another option is Personal Librarian, from Personal Library Software of
Rockville, MD. (310-990-1155). They have both DOS and Windows products as
well. I use this to create large databases I distribute on CD-ROM; this is
our corporate standard. It includes an internal image viewer as well as an
advanced search and retrieval engine. The windows version installs from two
diskettes, and the database can either be encrypted or plain ascii.

Both of these products include the several types of boolean searches,
hyperlinking, and the ability to call external applications.

A colleague who isn't on TECHWR-L has a question, and I'll bet
this distinguished group has the answer. . . .

He has a 500-page document, and he wants to make it available on
floppy disk or CD.  It needs to have at least a rudimentary search
capability, indexing, and hypertext -- something like the "Bible
on CD" software you can buy.

What's the best tool or package for building such a document?  I'd
prefer direct replies to me at ldkunz -at- vnet -dot- ibm -dot- com -dot-
