Subject:Re: [HUMOR] Why did the chicken cross the road? From:Nora Merhar <merhar -at- ALENA -dot- SWITCH -dot- ROCKWELL -dot- COM> Date:Thu, 2 Mar 1995 13:32:54 CST
Douglas Adams writes "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" books, which I
have not read, but I understand are humorous, absurd sci-fi. I expect that,
since "42" has nothing to do with why a chicken would cross the road, that's
why it's the punchline Douglas Adams would choose. Or maybe it's a specific
reference to one of his books
The explanation for Salvador Dali's response is (I think) much the same.
Dali was a surrealist/Dadaist painter who was something of a showoff, and made
lots of cryptic pronouncements ("The only difference between myself and a madman
is that I am not mad."). One of his most famous paintings is of a lot of clocks,
melting, hanging over tree branches.
