Int'l bent on resume vs cv

I found John Renish's assertion that American's typically omit personal
information from resumes and cv's because much of it is either nobody
else's business or illegal in the USA interesting.  My husband is an academic
and the resumes and cv's he sees in his department (engineering) show a
completely opposite story.  Applicants for positions in his department who
hail from other countries (most notably Asia) tend NOT to put such personal
information as marital status, hobbies, etc. in their resumes and cv's.
The American applicants, however, often do state these facts.  What the
non-American applicants tend to put with their resumes and cv's is other
information not even related to their field, such as copies of newspaper
clippings concerning something the applicant did for his/her community or
university.  Just an interesting tidbit...

p.s. I'm glad someone finally cleared up what a "cv" was; I hadn't a clue
from the original posting.  Isn't there an unspoken rule in communication
that when acronyms are used they are spelled out first for clarity?
