In "Editing for the Technical Professions"
(Macmillan, 1993), William O. Coggin and Lynnette R. Porter explain that
levels of edit are categories for seven "types of edit"
They list and define language edit, as well as mechanical style, policy,
reference check, screening, substanive, and technical edits (page 20-21).
I would note that a legal edit can be done.
