I write and edit our (San Diego) STC chapter newsletter. Last year I
wanted to include a few of the posts on TECHWR-L in my article.
First, I wrote the article, assuming no one would deny their
permission to use their posts. Then I sent a message to each person
whose post I used, asking for their permission. Of course, I got it.
But I guess I did the process kind of backward, didn't I?
>>>>>>Sort of!!! The essence of the question I posted is this: Does someone
give tacit approval to reuse opinions, discussion, etc, by putting these "in the
public domain" on the List? After all, public figures are quoted all the time
(many times out of context, and much to their dismay) in the media, why
shouldn't tech writers? (with reference to where the quote came from, of
course.)
Just an interesting issue, and one that's sure to hit us all at one point of
time or another.
Thanks for your interest,
Bob
BTW, do you mind if I send this "discussion" to the list??? Might as well feed
it back to all...
