Here's a little bit of salary-related humor (or maybe wishful thinking).

Background (NOT a sales plug): Adobe Systems, Inc. gave almost
continuous demonstrations of their Acrobat 2.0 product at the vendor
exposition for the Documation '95 conference in Long Beach, CA last
week. Acrobat's main function is to create portable documents--that is,
the same file can be viewed and printed on Unix, DOS, Windows, and
Macintosh machines.

One of the touted version 2.0 features is password protection, so that
only authorized people can read your portable document. The file they
used to demonstrate this feature was named SALARY, and after they
entered the correct password, up popped a table listing employees along
with their departments, hire dates, review dates, and salaries.

Well, to make a long story short, one of the entries was for a "Paul
Goodman" in the "Technical Pubs" department. He was hired on "8/11/90"
and his salary was . . . (the envelope, please) . . . "$110,500." That
was by far the highest salary on the list, outstripping the nearest
competitor--in the Sales department--by nearly 10%.

How much you want to bet that somebody in "Technical Pubs" came up with
the sample data for this salary list?
