Techwr-l friends:
I promised some of you that I would let you know how
things have worked out at my company since the tech comm dept
was told that we would be outsourced (taken over by a vendor
company). This message is an attempt to bring you up-to-date.

Until recently, I've stayed very quiet on this list since that
announcment on Oct. 31, '94. Part of that is because of the
stress and uncertainty, part is a change of habits, and part is
due to network changes.

When I asked for advice on my resume, several of you offered to
give your opinion. I want to thank each of you who provided
comments. Every comment helped me tweak it a little more. Thanks!

The story on the dept. is that we lost three writers to layoffs at
the end of the year. In Jan, a team evaluated three potential bidders
for the contract. On March 1, the persons from the old Tech Comm
Dept became employees of a new vendor company.

The result is that the future looks bright. We are still making
adjustments in the process of thinking of ourselves as contractors to
our main client instead of employees of this large company. Although
there are some new rules, there are also many new opportunities. The
company plans to expand, and my boss will soon be looking for more
employees (contract, for now). (Don't ask me--I don't do the hiring.)

If all goes as I hope, I will continue to learn from the discussions
on this very helpful list as I have for the past year and a half.

Thanks to those who have kept in touch!

now an employee of COREComm
