I'm a Monty Python fan from way back, but I've got to agree with Richard's
reasoning. Spam was mass-produced, cheap, containerized, and seemed to
appear
everywhere. It wasn't really regarded as a culinary treat.

That's the things that I remember, and that I associated with a spammed
message. I never associated a spammed message with the Vikings in the
restaurant until postings on this list suggested that link.

Probably, we'll never know for sure, unless someone is able to come up
with the equivalent of the dried, dead moth that gave us the term "bug."
