How do new tech writers find jobs?

I am a graduating senior in the Technical & Professional Writing program
at San Francisco State University. I've been reading this list for a few
weeks, now, and know that looking for work is frowned upon here, but I'd
like to ask for *advice* on *finding* jobs as a new technical writer. I
will compile any responses I receive and pass them on to my classmates
(most of whom are graduating this semester, too).

Here are a few very specific ways I would do a job search.
I'm assuming you want to stay in the Bay Area.

Read the ads in the Sunday San Jose Mercury.

Check the jobs on DICE (on-line job search) 408/737-9339 (modem #)

Check ba.jobs.offered and ba.jobs.misc

Sign up for NewsHound from AOL, Prodigy, CompuServ, or from any
e-mail address. NewsHound will send all writer ads from several sources
(or any other topics) to your e-mail.
Their # is 1-800-818-6397. $4.95 a month.

Attend Westech (job fair) at the Santa Clara Convention Center today
or tomorrow. They say the positions require 3 years experience, but
grads have found jobs there. At least you can distribute your resume
to many companies in minimum time. Keep your eyes and ears open.

IBM Santa Teresa has hired new grads. Not sure of the situation now.
