The documentation house I work at has just been interviewing a
bunch of folks for a position; from my participation in those interviews,
I would suggest that a) your technical expertise as such will be
established by a well-written resume, and b) your writing samples need
not be technical but _do_ need to show that you can put sentences
together coherently. There's loads of folks who know programs & systems
and relatively few who can write. I would think some of the non-fiction
pieces you say you've written on the side would do just fine.
