In addition to the Miller/Swift book that Steve mentions, you might
also want to take a look at The Dictionary of Bias-Free Usage: A Guide
to Nondiscriminatory Language, by Rosalie Maggio (Oryx, 1991). It
covers the basic guidelines for nondiscriminatory language in about 25
pages and then has a dictionary of alternatives to disriminatory
words/phrases, explanations of word use, and so forth.
