Question -- will an audience of programmers understand
marquee? If not, should I use the term anyway and define

replace it???

This term seems a little confusing--a marquee, to me, is an area in which text
is displayed in a rather flashy way. The dashed box seems more like a marquee
than the tool with which to create it. (As I understand it, marquee=tool to
define an area inside a little dashed box.) Perhaps the tool should be called
the marquee tool, and if you're using "XXXX tool" to define other tools, that
would be parallel.

If you want to get away from "marquee," period, "zoom box" and "zoom tool"
zeem--oops, seem--like good starting points.

As for jargon and programmers--well, if programmers can't handle jargon, who
can? But the term itself seems misleading, so I'd try to modify it somewhat
before defining and using it.

Of course, I "sold out" a few months ago and began using "ping" as a verb under
special circumstances...
