Computer Virus Attacks Word Documents

(01-Sep-95)

A new computer virus capable of spreading through the exchange of Microsoft
Word documents has been identified. Called Winword.Concept, the virus
replicates by adding internal macros to Word documents. If the virus is
active on a system, an uninfected document can become infected simply by
opening it and then saving it using the "File Save As" menu option.

A free fix for the problem is available in the NCSA Anti- Virus Vendor Forum
in the file WVFIX.ZIP in Library 3, "Command/F-PROT." This fix requires no
additional software other than Microsoft Word itself.

To access the NCSA Anti-Virus Vendor Forum, part of CompuServe's extended
services, GO NCSAVIRUS.
