Telecommuting: Not for me!

I've been working for a software company for the last 18 months, and I
wouldn't trade having to come to work here for anything, not even the day
we had 13 inches of snow and I had to use my four-wheel drive to get to
work.

First of all, I couldn't do my job nearly as well if I were at home. I
bribe/bug the engineers endlessly (they will sell their own children for
frozen chocolate chip cookie dough). Our company's processes aren't
well-defined yet, so I really need to be here to eavesdrop and snoop.
Otherwise, I'd be clueless.

Second, I really enjoy working *at work.* I enjoy the people I work with,
and the things I can share here. I adore my family, but they aren't much
fun for debating whether it's OK to use contractions in manuals or whether
we should use up style or down style in the headings.

I also like the opportunity to get out of the house. I spent two and a
half years at home after my daughter was born, and it wasn't my cup of tea.
When my hubby came home from work, he'd want to spend quiet time with his
hobbies or something, and I wanted to talk talk talk. On the weekends he'd
want to stick around the house and putter, and I'd want to go somewhere.
Now we are much more in synch.

My two cents.
