Here's a example of an experience I've had many times: A fellow technical
writer looks up from a terminal with a disparaged look. She slowly,
deliberately, and in an over-exaggerated manner says, "F*ck." Never has so
much been communicated in so few words. I have only one option: offer to take
her to lunch.
Audience is paramount.
