My neighbor has a large wooden sign hanging over his front
entrance that reads "The Medley's."

I've hated that sign for years. It's like an advertisement:
Red Neck lives here, or Gear Head lives here. It sends a much
different message that the owner intended, like "renters not
welcome in this neighborhood"--or maybe it doesn't.
