For anyone keeping track of pay levels, the Tampa (FL) Bay area highs seem to
be
$45k - $47k for experienced multi-talented writers at _name_ companies.
Otherwise, low-30s to low-40s for in-house, with contracts ranging from $18 -
$30/hour ... alas, the $18-$22 end far outweighs the $25-$30 end, with the
same _name_
companies keeping the lid on contractors (most of the time).

Someone recently asked about agents for free-lancers. How about working as a
full-timer for a consulting firm. You get the benefits of an in-house job
(steady work,
insurance, W-2 simplicity, etc.) with variety of contracting. You do NOT get
the
maximum $$, but you have someone to market you(r skills) -- probably better
than
you can do youself -- and you don't have to pad the bank account for the
regular
_rainy days_ between contracts. It works for me.
