I have two rules: the Writing Rule and the Marketing Rule.

1. The writing rule: If a description seems overly complex and unclear,
I fix it with a diagram.

2. The marketing rule: If a diagram would be more interesting and
memorable than a description, and the discussion is about a cool
feature of the product, I use a diagram.
