Interchange Language Reference in Help>Main Menu>Online Manuals popup
menu>MML Reference and MIF Reference discuss "database publishing"
techniques.

Although fmbatch only works on unix, any programmable database or
programming language can be used to mix retrieved data with appropriate
FrameMaker text commands to create text files that, when opened in
FrameMaker, become true pages with text flows, master page-controlled
layouts, character and paragraph and table format catalogues, etc. It's
not trivial to first set this up, but it works. The "pushbutton" ease of
processing described testifies to how much work and testing went into the
design and development phase.

My point is just to note that fmbatch isn't essential, so this can be done
on any platform; in fact, the database extraction and MIF file creation
can be done on any platform without Frame being on it. You could perform
the database query on a unix computer, move the output to a Mac were you
parse and wrap it in Frame's commands, then move this text MIF file (or
files) to a PC-Windows machine with Frame, where you open the files, and
view or print them.
