LaVonna Funkhouser recently requested information on the intranet. I
personally don't know much about it, but came across an interesting 2-page
article in the April 29 issue of PC Week, "Building the case for your
intranet". It profiles how Cargill International's IT (information
technology?) dept. launched an intranet effort, beginning with a few pages
and then expanding, with support from top mgt. The article states that,
"The benefits, from improved communications to cost savings to bolstering
the company's data wrehouse efforts, are already evident." The article
mentions how Cargill's IT groups justified the cost: 1) getting costs of
developing and distributing manuals and then proving how the intranet could
save money with online updates. 2) Getting top mgt support, including the
VP of public affairs, 3) "enthusiastic users help sell the project".
Hope this helps,
