Yes, I have to calculate a fixed fee for my clients, otherwise they would't
order a manual. Assuming my calculated fee was 9,000 DEM for a 50 page
manual, my contract defines three thirds of payment:

1st quote with order acceptance,
2nd quote with design review and
3rd quote with deliberables.

This method keeps the cash flowing every couple of weeks. If the job is
killed between two payment quotes, which occurs seldom enough, I charge
the rest amount of consumed hours, which no client ever refused.
