Typography is an ancient craft, developed and refined over the centuries
since Gutenberg's time.
Until recently, the aspiring typographer had to spend years as an apprentice
to learn the subtleties of this respected profession.
Now, what a pity. Everyone with a computer and a laser printer who took
typing in the 9th grade is an instant expert on this complex art. And, it's
funny--these people don't realize how irrational it is to even *try* to
equate typing and typography.
What's more, these folks have read books for decades, set by *real*
typographers, written by everyone from Dr. Seuss to Norman Mailer, Steven
King, Ruth Westheimer, Jules Verne, Charles Dickens, A. A. Milne, Niccolo
Machiavelli, Jackie Collins, and even Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, without
ever once saying to themselves "Gee, if only there were more space at the
end of each sentence . . ."
