subject. <g>

I think the reason subscribers to communications-related mailing lists
and newsgroups are more anal about the usage in others' posts is that
most people tend to be anal about the things that interest them.

On a mailing list about dogs, for instance, you won't find many gripes
about dangling participles, but get a breed name wrong and you'll likely
hear about it! On a newsgroup about firearms, most people won't look
twice if you write "know" when you meant to write "no", but call a
shotgun a rifle and prepare to be corrected.

I intended to say more, but it's quitting time and my ride is waiting for
me. But I think I said enough.
