The East Tennessee Chapter of STC invites you to register for its
Practical Conference on Communication (PCOC, pronounced "peacock").
PCOC features presentations and workshops by editors, writers, designers,
managers, and educators on a variety of topics directed toward practical
application.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of PCOC, which is the longest running
two-day regional conference in STC. To celebrate, the 20th PCOC is being
expanded to three days.

The first two days encompass topics ranging from writing and editing to
software demonstrations to resume and portfolio advice. The third day
focuses on freelancing, contracting, and independent consulting.

We invite you to join us in celebrating our 20th anniversary. We hope that
you will come to PCOC to learn, to meet people, and-above all-to have fun.

**Registration Information**

Registration Benefits
In addition to the presentations, registration for PCOC 20 entitles you to
two refreshment breaks and one full meal on each day (dinner and
entertainment on Thursday and lunches on Friday and Saturday) that you are
signed up to attend as well as a copy of the  proceedings.  Three-day
registration is $160 for STC members and $175 for nonmembers; two-day
registration is $125 for STC members and $140 for nonmembers; one-day
registration is $90 for STC members and $105 for nonmembers.  Student
registration includes conference sessions and proceedings and is $25.

Conference site
This year's conference site is the Knoxville Hilton in downtown Knoxville.
The Hilton offers a free airport shuttle to those participants who are
flying into Knoxville and free parking in an attached parking garage for
those who are driving.

Accommodations
Conference room rates at the Hilton are $82 per day for both singles and
doubles.  To obtain the conference rate, please identify yourself as a PCOC
participant when you call 423-523-2300 or 1-800-445-8667 to make
reservations.  To guarantee this rate, hotel reservations must be made by
September 16.

Early Check-In
The chapter will host a reception at the Hilton on Wednesday, October 16,
from 7 to 10 p.m.  Enjoy this informal evening with fellow communicators.

Registration Deadline
The deadline for registration is October 10, 1996.
