My question is, is there anyone out there who can suggest:

1) software that generates Spanish characters such as accented vowels,
oomlauted u, n capped by a tilde, etc. to avoid having to uses an old DOS
appolication and copy and paste?

At the risk of starting a religious war: Use any word processing software you
want on a Macintosh. Mac's Keycaps works pretty well for identifying the key
combinations that produce any Spanish character (e.g., shift-cmd-? yields the
inverted question mark), but Norton's Keyfinder is more convenient. In a short
time, you won't even need to look up the key combinations.
