I spent a number of years working in journalism back in the 70s and
80s. I don't know if that qualifies me as being an old newspaper
person, but I can tell you that term "tear sheets" was a commonly-used
term. After we printed the paper, someone, usually the ad salesmen,
would cut or tear out a copy of each ad and have these "tear sheets"
delivered to the businesses who paid for the ad.
