TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The Student Chapter Development Committee is working on a "toolbox" of
ideas/suggestions for student chapter leaders and advisors.
The materials would not be printed up in yet another manual (we all
agree on this), but rather on the Web, accessible through the STC
site.
Assuming you think this would be a good idea (but give your opinion
regardless), what information do you think would be helpful?
What are some of the major problems you deal with that could be
covered in this collection?
Here's an idea to get us started: how about a collection of
quotations, from current advisors? These would deal with the good,
bad and ugly of the job.
For example, "Advising a student chapter is like putting socks on an
octopus: once you get one segment under control, something else goes
astray."
Please send your input/feedback to one of the co-chairs of the
Student Chapter Development Committee:

Or post a message to STCHAP-L -at- MTU -dot- EDU (you can use all lower-case
characters).
