The standard bromides about clear writing (use the active voice, watch
pronoun antecedents, and blah, blah, blah) are always included in a company
or department style guide, but as I grow older I wonder about their
usefulness. If you're going to cobble together recommendations from various
sources, why not simply use them directly - like the Chicago Manual of Style?
