If only the knuckleheads who create this stuff would use their power
for good!

If they did, no one would notice. The dim bulbs that write this stuff do so
because they aren't good enough to create anything significantly useful
(yes, there are exceptions to this statement, but not many -- the vast
majority of viruses are either badly written, or utilize trivial techniques
to exploit widely-known weaknesses in their environment, or both).

This popular (and false) image of the wily virus writer actually promotes
viruses by overhyping the intelligence and ability required to write one.
Don't just take my word for it. Take a look at the macro code for any of
the Word macro viruses; the hardest part is spelling the command names
correctly!
