In a large manual, published under the pressure of a deadline, it's
quite possible for minor errors to creep in and be missed by a good
writer. But in a cover letter and resume sent out with the express
purpose of soliciting employment as a writer? No, there's no excuse
whatsoever for the slightest mechanical error, and Eric is quite right
to use such errors as a litmus test of minimal competence.
