Word Master/Sub Documents & MasterView

This does mean we have to generate two TOCs and indexes and put them
together. The rd field works as well which should be easier when you
have more than two documents to put together.

This is almost true. MasterView is, as you describe, a set of macros
that replace the broken Master Documents system in Word.

It has now reached a rather later version, and proved so popular that
it had to move to a different server. The URL is now

You certainly don't have to generate two ToCs and indexes. Obviously
you enter the index entries in the source documents, but MasterView
makes all the connections between them.

It also handles cross-references, sequences, page numbers heading
numbers and more.

It is shareware, which means you'll have to pay for it (well worth
buying) but once the fields are embedded in the documents, they still
work if the documents are opened on a machine without the MasterView
macros loaded. It simply uses RD and includetext fields and the like
in an intelligent way. You can do the same by hand if you really want
to!
