Eric,

As others have stated, Acrobat files can be edited through a variety of
software and hardware methods. If your client wants a web solution that
cannot be printed and cannot be altered (unlike HTML), check out a
product called Net-It Now! which you can download from the web (find
their web site using any search engine.) You print files from any of a
number of common programs (word processors, page layout programs, etc.)
to the Net-It Now! driver. The program produces web pages that can be
viewed with most current browsers but cannot be printed and the text
cannot be seen using the "view source" option. I tried it out a couple
of months ago to produce web material quickly, but had to pass on buying
the license for it because of its lack of printing capabilities. It
might provide your nervous clients with an option. But, like others have
noted, anything that can be read can be reproduced and plagiarized.
Paranoid academics will just have to accept that.
