Need sound advice

I am so thankful to find this list. As a second year college student with
high hopes of receiving a MS in Instructional Systems Technology, it is
becoming increasingly difficult to find anyone with knowledge concerning
IST. Central Washington University, where I attend, does not offer an IST
program. If I commit to this I will have to go the Individual Studies
route. All my research indicates that IST is not offered as an
undergraduate degree in any university. My main concern is that I do not
want to put my time and hard work into getting a degree that is not
necessary for me to achieve my goals. My goal is to sub-contract
instructional and technical design with corporations and the gov. I have
very limited information in this area, only what I have found on-line and
through publications. I know of no one personally in this field, but I know
this is what I really want to do. What is the BEST possible route to take?
Is a BA in a Technical Writing program sufficient? I appreciate as much
input and advice, pros and cons, as possible.
