Another idea:

If the developers are so concerned with timely incorporation of updates,
and are afraid that you might not be available to turn the updates around
quickly enough, why not have them simply prepare a *documentation
update* to include with the latest version of *your* documentation? They
could keep a reasonable supply of your latest version in stock, and then
crank out their supplements as needed.

The developers' update sheet(s) would provide the clients the latest
information to supplement your manual, and would also do your legwork
for you by (hopefully) defining all the changes in detail.
