as others are mentioning--there are a variety of ways a company
could eat up 4 hrs. --HR, various discussions with various levels of
management, etc.

try to learn as much as possible during these meetings/contacts.
many positions are as good as they are (or as bad) depending on
the PEOPLE you work with. try to get a feel for whether or not you could
spend all day every day with these folks.

To best market yourself during this time, don't forget to bring along
that fabulous portfolio you've been compiling (as we've discussed many
times before on this list)! --a good portfolio backs up what you've
written
in your resume and gives your potential employer a hands on look at
what you can do. mine has carried me across many a mine field and
i'm always including for new examples and tailoring for new contacts.
