Nate,
The Alt number keys are always "turned on", and not only when you work in
Word. Anywhere you are, Alt+0162 gives you a cents sign. Even in this
e-mail, like this: ¢
However, you cannot use the numbers at the top of your keyboard. You must
use those on the number keypad, on the right of the keyboard. Choose Num
Lock first, so that, for example, 9 and 3 are indeed "9" and "3", and not
PgUp and Pgdn.
