Please accept my apologies for this list's tendency to flame job
postings.
Apparently the job posters have had experiences like mine: I have yet to
interview someone for an entry-level technical writing position who can
define the difference between active and passive voice, and this
includes people with with 5+ years of what employers would assume is
technical writing experience and English Ph.D.'s--who have taught
composition courses!! (It also includes one high-school English teacher;
I'm starteda quest.)

"Excellent writing skills" at least lets us know that the poster is
interested in something besides software skills--remember writing?
