TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I like some type of ring or wire binding that allows pages to lay flat (two
pages) or (wire only) flipped around to lay flat and see one page. The
reason - When learning new software, a softcover book requires me to read a
passage, then turn the book down on my desk or computer, then complete a
step or two, then open the book again, etc., etc., etc. A wire-bound
allows me to read and look, as needed.
The disadvantage - marketing. It doesn't sit pretty on a shelf (if it's a
after-initial-purchase book). If you package the book inside, the standard
pretty box with book and CD inside, I say go wire-bound. If you are trying
to reach the Barnes & Noble computer book section crowd, choose softcover.
Even though, I would like the wire-bound book, it's not sexy. Only my
viewpoint, not that of MDM.
