I wouldn't be shocked at the $24k a year if you are a new writer with no
work experience. The STC survey is good because it gives you an idea of the
number, but don't take it as gospel.

Remember, there are several factors--the area of the country, financial
status of the company, how much the company values the position, how well
your skills and experience match their requirements, and the benefits
package (usually companies that have good benefits have lower salaries) to
name a few.

You can ask about a higher salary, but make sure you are really interested
in the job before you ask. If you can't afford to take the salary, don't
take the job.
